How I Became a Victim of a Manic Psychotic Attack

Reflecting on my experience, I’ve come to believe that my manic psychotic episode may have been influenced by factors I hadn’t previously considered. In reading an article from The New York Times about the link between COVID-19 and mental health, I found striking parallels between the psychotic breaks experienced by COVID patients and what I went through.

According to the article, some individuals, even without prior mental illness, developed symptoms like hallucinations and delusions after contracting COVID-19. The medical community is still studying how COVID might cause inflammation or affect the brain in ways that trigger these episodes.

While I do not know COVID caused my attack, its the only other lead we have other than stress induced. This idea has led me to reflect on how outside factors—be it health-related or otherwise—can play a role in extreme mental events. I think it’s important to consider how our body’s physical health may deeply impact our mental well-being, and how such stressors might contribute to psychosis in ways we’re just beginning to understand.
